New Asphalt Production Plant

Following a competitive single stage tender Tercon secured the contract to carry out all civil engineering works and construction of aggregate storage bays. Tercon were chosen to support Wainwright on this £9m investment project due to our strengths of direct delivery and owner managed business approach.

Early stage work included dealing effectively with unexploded ordnance (UXO) risk across the 4.5 acre site before piling works could commence.

Of major importance to the client was a pro-active ability to interface with the Dutch company installing the major production plant and all other stakeholders. Our project team ensured effective relationships were formed across to achieve communication and collaborative working at each stage.

Key elements of work

  • UXO threat mitigation works, watercourse diversion, site reclamation and preparation, all filling and piling mat to the 4.5 acre site
  • Over 600 driven piles to around 20m depth
  • 2,000m3 concrete in piled foundation and weighbridge bases, slabs and walls with 300 tonne of reinforcement steel
  • 10,000m2 of heavy duty asphalt surfacing including over 2,000m2 hard abrasion resistance Hardicrete surfacing
  • Construction of 18 large open fronted aggregate storage bays of special design in 2 terraced rows. Constructed with high wear resistant floor incorporating embedded steel wear strips, and sleeper wall with over 1700 reclaimed railway sleepers installed
